: Hong Kong Island : :
There are four major neighbourhoods where most hotels are located
on Hong Kong island; First is Central, home to some of the most
important financial institutions and many of the world's largest
companies and international chain hotels. Second, is Wanchai, a
very popular neighbourhood and business area. Due to the expensive
real estate in neighbouring Central many companies have spilled
over to Wanchai. The Hong Kong Convention Centre is located in Wanchai.
A combination of steady clientele from nearby businesses and convention
visitors has lead to Wanchai transforming into a lively neighbour
of bars, restaurants after office hours. Some of Hong Kong's trendiest
bars and restaurants here are packed out almost every night. Hotels
in this area tend to smaller locally run hotels in the 3-4 star
range - but don't let the ratings fool you, most hotels are very
smart.
Third is Causeway Bay. Located on the waterfront ceveloped by way
land reclamation to make more building space. The Cross Habour Tunnel,
one of the largest underwater freeways in Asia, has led to the transformation
of Causeway Bay into a bustling urban area with great shopping and
dining making the area very crowded and almost unpassable on weekends!
Last is North Point, an up and coming commercial district. Whilst
it is not that far away (just a further two stops on the MTR from
Causeway Bay) many leisure visitors give the area a pass opting
to be closer to the central downtown area. As such the hotels in
this area offer very attractive rates for the budget conscious traveler.
FYI, in order to remain objective, hotels are listed in alphabetical
order. We don't favor any hotel for any reason.
